Recording and Broadcasting "Rock am Ring" with DirectOut Technologies

Three days, three stages, more than 20 bands playing and 85.000 visitors. The german radio station SWR recorded and broadcasted the music festival „Rock am Ring“ in Nürburg.
Wolfgang Bachner, broadcast engineer from SWR: „For several years
now more and more bands use own digital equipment. That means no
analog splitters can be used which have been source for our OB vans
before. Mostly a MADI signal is offered then instead. This signal is
locked to the FOH / Monitor system of the band and so we need to reclock
the signal for processing it with our OB van. D.O.TECs MADI.SRC fills
exactly the gap in the signal chain. We feed the MADI stream from stage
to the MADI.SRC where it is reclocked to our own word clock.“
Coaxial MADI vs. optical MADI
Wolfgang Bachner
explains: „As we never know whether we get a coaxial or an optical MADI
signal from the band, we installed D.O.TECs SPLIT.CONVERTER on stage to
ensure that we can use our optical cable with 150 meters length for a
safe transport to the OB van.“
Happy Management
„Seeing our equipment - multitrack and
HD video recording - last year the manager of a band was extremely
disappointed when he realized that we could not use the digital signal
directly from stage. With the two devices from DirectOut Technologies we
are now completely independent from the live sound infrastructure and
can process any type of digital audio inputs, no matter what clock or
samplerate the live sound provides.“
D.O.TEC MADI.SRC for realtime
reclocking and D.O.TEC SPLIT.CONVERTER for splitting and format
conversion. Together they form the perfect SYNC UP bundle for live
recording.
