From November 10th-13th 2011 the first "International Conference on Spatial Audio" takes place at the Detmold University of Music. The ICSA will present multi-channel recording and playback techniques (such as WFS, Auro 3D, 2+2+2, and others) currently available in a methodical approach. Visitors can get in touch with these techniques during listening tests, workshops and posters. DirectOut supports the conference with numerous MADI products.

Stage Mic Setup

Music for the listening tests was recorded with huge effort in September already. To be able to control all multichannel techniques at the same time, four separate control rooms were installed in Detmold. All of them with access to the microphone signals on stage. The M.1k2 was chosen to be the core of the monitor routing, providing all control rooms with MADI feeds that contained the requested signals.

Communication between three of the control rooms was realised by using the PRODUCER.COM. As not all mixing consoles were equipped with MADI inputs, up to five ANDIAMO.XTs were used to convert the incoming signals to AES.

During the recording sessions a lot of microphones had to be moved and many patches changed. Two MA2CHBOX headphone amps were mounted on top of the microphone pre-amps to give quick access to each of the over 120 channels for line check.

Leading organizer of the ICSA 2011 is the Verband deutscher Tonmeister.
