Creative Technology Middle East (CTME) was the sole technical supplier for G42 Supercharged, G42’s flagship event, held in the ADNEC ICC Halls in Abu Dhabi. The event brought together the very latest in technology from across the entire brand and delivered an inspiring a day of debate on an AI enabled future. With such pioneering technology being discussed and displayed, nothing less than the PRODIGY.MP could offer CTME the stability and reliability required to keep the event on track.

G42 SuperCharged hosted over 2,400 guests and benefitted from over 150 meters of LED screens, plus the largest d&b Soundscape system ever deployed in the region. G42 is an artificial intelligence cloud computing company, committed to investing in ways to harness the power of AI across many difference areas of human life.

In preparation, CTME built a scale version of the installation and ran four days of rehearsals in their warehouse for all stakeholders. The setup had a huge channel count with audio and visuals synchronized with smooth audio transitions that enveloped the audience.

When the tour came to an end, Carlton founded Nerdmatics, officially launching the company that would later support artists across a wide range of genres.

By 2014, he was working with Linkin Park, and soon his client list expanded to include Maluma, Becky G, Drake and Kendrick Lamar, among many others. Despite the diversity of artists and productions, one element has remained constant across his systems: DirectOut.

The platform provides the stability and flexibility required to build playback rigs that can respond dynamically to live performance, rather than locking artists into rigid, predetermined structures.

“Most big pop shows now are completely locked in; every show is exactly the same, even the interaction with the audience. When you’re dealing with automation for moving stages, or pyrotechnics, it’s dangerous to have the artist in control, but for music and lighting, it doesn’t have to be that way,” he continues. “The desire for spontaneous live music, a shared singular experience that can’t be anticipated, is really exciting and it’s entirely possible to combine that with playback if you have the right set up.”

Finding the right setup has been an ongoing process of refinement. A major turning point came in 2018, when Carlton was tasked with designing a system for a stadium show for Riot Games. Searching for a solution that could meet the scale and reliability demands of the project, he discovered DirectOut’s PRODIGY.MC.

“When I built these systems in the past, I would probably be combining six or seven companies, I was basically a system integrator,” he continues. “It wasn’t easy because if there was an issue and I had to call support, and each brand would blame the next. Then DirectOut arrived and it was the first all in one system. I now have a built-in switcher, multiple styles of format and network protocol - Dante, MADI, Ravenna, Soundgrid - and they’re all compatible.”

A key advantage for Carlton is the modular architecture of the PRODIGY Series: what began with a single PRODIGY.MC configured with a Dante card and analog backup quickly grew into a long-term collaboration. Today, DirectOut forms the backbone of many Nerdmatics systems, including a recent installation for ILLENIUM at the Sphere: a 128 channel redundant audio system built around two Dual Network Dante.Dante SRC.IO cards.

For him, a robust playback system does not need to be rigid or overly technical; it can be expressive, adaptive and responsive. “The modular part of my DirectOut systems is super important because people change their minds last minute. By using PRODIGY Series solutions, I can build a system that is maxed out, so I can be asked for anything and it’s not a problem,” he finishes. “PRODIGY has done the hard work with its DSP so you can run with every single slot filled and everything happening at once, or you can run a simplified version and it’s happy. That is flexibility on another level, and it makes a world of difference.”

After their success, rumors of an even larger 2027 worldwide tour are already circulating. “I used a different system processor for many, many years, but about three years ago, I went to go visit my buddy Curtis, who mixes 3 Doors Down. Michael Mordente was the system engineer at the time and they were using PRODIGYs,” he recalls.

“They were the first people to introduce me to the benefits of DirectOut solutions. We’d been having issues, some of which were down to our devices, but it was also our configuration. So, for 2025 I let our supplier, Clair Global, know that I wanted to run our new amplifiers with a full Milan network and I wanted DirectOut as the core of my whole system.”
Gerhart was so impressed with DirectOut solutions that he also purchased a rig for his company, InPhase, which he uses at the front of house position for Creed.

“I bought a MAVEN.A, so I have my personal rig in addition to what I specify for the touring side of things,” he continues. “For me, me putting the MAVEN.A in my rack has allowed me to get rid of a Smaart interface, so it saved rack space. I was also able to incorporate a whole Dante network into my system and use it as my playback unit.
That amount of versatility in a single device was pretty powerful. Another big advantage was the filter set; having the all-pass filters, as well as the notch filters is great, the tilt filters are fantastic, too!”

System engineer, Bongardt, has been a Clair Global employee for 14 years. He started as an intern and has worked his way up, first as a PA tech, then monitor tech, monitor engineer and front of house engineer. During the pandemic, he made the switch to system engineering and has been with Creed for the last two years. To begin with, DirectOut solutions felt too unfamiliar and expansive, but once he had narrowed down exactly what the system needed, he realized it was a very manageable to work with.

“Historically, I'm more of an old school analog guy, so starting out it felt like a lot - so many possibilities! Once I did the first tour, I got accustomed to it and I've toured with PRODIGY about four times since then,” he explains. “The PRODIGYs have a lot of capability. Initially, I started looking through the possibilities and workflow; the FIR filters, the IIR filters, and all the different parameters were really useful.

We were mixing and matching PA hangs on tour, so we used the full toy box. Having the offline capability to program, then draw out the processing signal flow was great, I still don’t think I’ve managed to max one out.”
The Creed audio system is built around the PRODIGY.MP managing console matrixing and driving the PA. The filters are one part of the workflow, but it is also taking care of network conversions, switching between analog, AVB Milan and AES signals so that data can flow seamlessly between stage, tech and front of house systems.

The PRODIGY.MP is fully loaded with two analog input cards, two analog output cards, an AES card, AVB and Dante cards. This ensures that Bongardt can time and tune the entire loudspeaker system and can consolidate the separate matrix devices he was using previously.
As Bongardt and Gerhart conclude, the efficiency of this system, coupled with the versality, flexibility and reliability of the PRODIGY Smart Platform has ensured they have earnt their place in the Creed touring package.

“The PRODIGYs are great. Having everything within one box and figuring out ways to do really cool things with my Stream Decks was super,” Bongardt says. “I started out making OSC commands for it, just having fun. Now I’ve got the Companion Plugin, it is way easier. I’ve actually bought a bigger Stream Deck so I can have more buttons! The PRODIGY.MP is the centerpiece of the drive rack and does most of the processing. It won me over on that tour. I was not a fan initially, but now I want one on all the shows I do. For PRODIGY to change my mind like that is a very rare thing.”

Gerhart finishes, “I really like the gain and tone matching for analog to AES and the fact that I've been able to get creative with it. It takes the product to a higher level and makes it superior. There's reliability, big space savings and I am constantly finding new ways to use it. The value is definitely there.”

DirectOut manufactures high-end, flexible audio solutions and when Ricki Cook was employed as the systems architect for Linkin Park, he turned to the DirectOut PRODIGY and EXBOX Series to ensure his audio set-up was compatible with any system, anywhere in the world. Whether the show is a fly-in gig in South America, a US TV show, or performing in a European stadium, the band’s audio system is ready for anything and fully redundant thanks to DirectOut’s solutions.

Beginning his career in systems integration followed by live/touring sound, he then diversified into broadcast where he discovered the flexibility of DirectOut, and has been using the products for over a decade.

When the opportunity to engineer Linkin Park’s FOH & broadcast systems was offered, Cook jumped at the chance to get back out on the road. They are now halfway through their worldwide From Zero Tour with dates in 2026 across the UAE, Australia and Europe to go.

“From the very beginning, the production manager said ‘Be prepared for anything’, and I knew there’s only one box that can do literally everything, the PRODIGY.MX,” he explains. “There are very few devices on the market that can actually go to the same level of detail in a box that's packaged to tour and has a very usable interface. We use globcon for all of our system monitoring with a Stream Deck interface for tactile control.”

The band’s audio and video engineers utilize six PRODIGY Series products in a range of roles throughout the audio and video systems. On stage, there is a PRODIGY.MP in the keyboard rig and one in the playback rig, facilitating failover and Dante conversion, plus up-sampling from 48k to 96k, so the stage can interface with the rest of the audio system. These rigs were designed and supplied by Fred Carlton of Nerdmatics.

A third PRODIGY.MP drives the main PA. The fourth is a PRODIGY.MX in the front of house effects rack, alongside a PRODIGY.MC handling analogue inserts. The .MX manages the change-over of audio-feeds & redundancy for a DiGiCo Quantum 852, supplied by Sound Image, a Clair Global Company. The audio is then sent to the Pro Tools recording system via MADI and Fourier transform.engines via Dante. Pro Tools is used for virtual sound check and archiving, while the Fourier transform.engine delivers processing and plug-in management for the front of house mix.

The PRODIGY.MX seamlessly manages the change-over between the DiGiCo engines and the rest of the rig. This ensures that, regardless of where the switch happens in the chain of devices, it is guaranteed to be glitch free.

“We're using BLDS to do fail-over between the Fourier engines. So, if one fails, BLDS loses tone and instantly switches to the back-up,” Cook explains. “This way, the Fouriers can failover without having to fail the engines on the console over, too, which would be more disruptive.

Or we can switch the engines over on the console without having to force the Fourier to fail over as well. Either way, Pro Tools never loses the feed, so we never lose a record or various feeds to downstream systems. It’s seamless.”

The sixth device, another PRODIGY.MX, manages the interface for the band’s in-house broadcast team. This department supplies content for the band’s YouTube channels and for special events, such as the e-sports League of Legends at London’s O2 Arena. The set up also enables the team to have complete control over content for any broadcast requirements from external crews, such as local media teams.
“The Broadcast PRODIGY.MX does a 96k to 48k conversion for broadcasters, and then isolates the clock domain for them, so they can be floating on their own clock and it doesn't affect us,” Cook continues. “I use the high density MADI SRC & Dante SRC cards. The MADI cards are loaded with a pair of multimode SFPs, Singlemode SFPs and coax SFPs.

This means it doesn't matter what the external crews are running, I can just plug it in and the same output appears on all of them. We used that in London last year for League of Legends where the local team could just hand me a pair of Singlemode fibers & no additional conversion was needed, it was as simple that.”

Extending the systems capability, Cook uses BiDi SFPs in the HD MADI SRC cards, allowing up to 4 MADI circuits down a single opticalCON Quad fiber to the EXBOX.MD remote nodes to deliver audio to broadcast consoles on the stadium shows that are streamed locally, still maintaining the ability to deliver SM, MM, coax or Dante at the remote end in those broadcast scenarios.

The modular design of the PRODIGY Series allows engineers to prepare for any imaginable combination of output requirements, whether that is multi-mode fiber in Brazil, or coaxial cables in North Hollywood. Cook and his team are able to supply exactly what is required effortlessly, reducing set-up time and potential stress. As he concludes, knowing that you can accommodate any network protocol or processing speed leaves more time and space to really perfect your show, benefitting everyone on the tour.

“When we were touring through South America and Asia the PAs were locally provided. One day we'd show up and we'd have to feed the PA with Dante, the next day it would be AVB, the next, AES. I've got all of those cards loaded into my PRODIGY.MP at FOH and it's just easy,” he finishes. “It doesn't matter what they're running, I can just plug them into the PRODIGY and it makes life easier.”

DirectOut manufactures audio solutions that are renowned for their reliability, whatever the application. For an event which has the scale and importance of the Pope’s 2025 Jubilee for Youth, absolute redundancy is a complete necessity. DirectOut’s Luca Giaroli designed a network audio, video, and control system that would provide the perfect infrastructure, working tirelessly to ensure that the audience of over a million young people heard every word of this special Papal Mass.

A Jubilee or Holy year is recognized every 25 years by the Catholic church. The year offers an opportunity for Catholics to reset, renew faith and recommit to a just world. The Jubilee for Youth was a week-long international event that saw hundreds of thousands of young people complete prayers, masses and even a pilgrimage of faith that culminated in the chance to enter the Vatican Major Basilicas through the Holy Doors.

Held in Rome during August 2025, the event was produced on a huge scale, the audience area alone was over 5 kilometers wide, with over 80 towers delivering audio and visuals across the site. Installed by Italian production company, EventManagement, each tower was equipped with loudspeaker PA systems, huge video screens and DirectOut smart platforms.

These were fed from a RAVENNA Audio over IP distribution network and each tower benefitted from fail-safe redundancy, across the entire network. There were also additional DirectOut solutions in use across the front of house, stage and broadcast audio systems, with the total number of DirectOut smart platforms totaling almost 100.

The scale of the audience area was vast. The distance between the first and last towers took over six minutes to travel between in a car and the audio delay between them was over five seconds. These towers provided all audio and visual services, including emergency announcements, so failure was not an option.

Designer Giaroli has enjoyed a long career specializing in delivering complete redundancy for massive live and sporting events, including the design of the audio networks for huge international shows like the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest in Turin, Euro 2020 and the Beijing 2008 Olympic Opening and Closing ceremonies. This wealth of experience has left him well placed to deliver the layers of redundancy required to ensure an event of such high importance will go ahead smoothly.

His design for the Jubilee of Youth had to include an answer to every conceivable failure. This included an ingenious disaster recovery solution that relied on the audio and visual towers being fitted with a terrestrial TV receiver. This receiver could provide a direct transmission of the broadcast signal of the mass, so in the event of a complete network failure, the towers could still broadcast audio and visuals to the attendees.

The addition of an emergency local switch allowed the show feeds to be automatically faded out and made a microphone live to the PA tower. This ensured that, with very little explanation or training, any of the volunteer stewards could easy address the crowd, delivering critical safety information if required.

This was possible because the DirectOut smart platforms were programmed to automatically detect a failure and resulting lack of network signals, swapping seamlessly to a backup. This reliable functionality provided the backbone for Giaroli’s completely redundant design, ensuring that any failure, whether human or technical, could not interfere with the audience’s experience.

“I had to make a quick decision. I had no idea what I was heading into, it was a real adventure and a very nice experience,” he says. “Before I flew to Japan, I called DirectOut and explained the situation. I asked if I could call them if I needed to and they couldn’t have been more helpful. The PRODIGY.MPs were processing audio, managing DSP; I use them as part speaker-management, part backup playback-switcher, there are so many possibilities. It’s just a 2U rack-able device, but it does so many jobs that to replace it, I would need a whole rack of convertors and processors. This flexible setup ensured high-quality audio distribution, precise timing, and reliable system performance throughout the exhibition.”

For Borowicz, the technical challenge of bringing all elements together seamlessly was one that he relished. Not only did he have to get the Pavilions working, he also had to ensure that the teams staying in Japan could repeat the experience daily, without any issues. This required a streamlined interface and rock-solid reliability, something that the PRODIGY.MP and globcon deliver effortlessly.

“There were many different zones in both Pavilions and the sounds really were part of the journey,” he explains. “There were many different sample rates, formats and clocks; the Philippines Pavilion alone had at least 20 zones. It had to be bullet-proof and it was amazing to have such powerful DirectOut tools to help bring everything together. I needed to learn a lot about Milan AVB very quickly, so it was a great journey and a great lesson!”

Borowicz stayed with the project until everything was prepared for opening. With the fair running for six months, from April to October 2025, there were bound to be changes required. In order to facilitate any amendments, he designed a globcon interface, accessible from a networked device anywhere in the world.

As playback and track automation became more prevalent, the number of channels steadily increased, and digital redundancy became a common necessity. A friend introduced Bechill to an image of a large-scale touring musician’s setup, which featured an DirectOut EXBOX, prompting him to contact DirectOut. This marked the beginning of a relationship that has endured ever since. “In America, there was not a lot of Distribution for the EXBOX, my local distributor was a broadcast company, so they weren’t dealing with many playback engineers like myself,” he recalls.

"I convinced them to send me one, so I could try it out and I put it in my Twenty One Pilots rig. That coincided with playback becoming much more accessible and suddenly we were trend-setting, on social media at least! It really took off and we absolutely felt ahead of the curve.”

The PRODIGY Series is seamlessly compatible with any audio application, thanks to its modular design. This flexibility enables the host device to be customized precisely for specific applications. Bechill’s priority is disaster recovery, making features such as EARS (Enhanced Automatic Redundancy Switching) and BLDS (The Buffer Loop Detection System) of the utmost importance.

“The cool part about PRODIGY is it's got such a wide net. It can be used in recording, for playback, live conversion, for front of house, and or as a system processing unit. DirectOut has become an absolute staple for NEAT, and means we can offer a multi-format solution that also has multiple applications. It's been great.”

NEAT Audio’s modern playback systems are designed to control backing tracks or time code for lighting and pyrotechnics. Additionally, any element of the show that can be automated can be seamlessly converted, processed, and controlled through devices such as the PRODIGY.MP.

Tools that were once prohibitively expensive for many musicians, including timecode automation, have now become accessible at all levels, from those performing in intimate venues to those headlining major stadiums. This transformation is attributed to the rapid advancements in technology and the subsequent decline in cost, which Bechill has observed throughout his career.

“True redundancy requires a switch to happen without the audience knowing there has been a critical failure,” he says. “When I started building playback rigs in 2011, just providing eight tracks of redundancy would cost around $3000-$5000, and would be about 4RU (Rack Units) in size. The unit itself would be heavy and, because everything was analog, there would be a lot of cabling. Now PRODIGY is a flagship product in a lot of my high-end builds. We have so many bands reliant on our touring engines, all using them differently. Blink 182 for instance is using it as a system processor for their PA speakers.”

Accessibility is a crucial factor in the success of any system. Although the work being done by the PRODIGY range is sophisticated, its interface is both intuitive and adaptable. globcon, the remote control and browser-based graphical user interface (GUI), provides comprehensive control over all aspects of the range. It not only manages DirectOut solutions but also any device on the network. globcon also supports trigger management, including OSC and MIDI.

“globcon is so easy to use even my ten-year-old could master it in a few minutes, but we always check that the client is familiar with it and offer training if not,” Bechill enthuses. “We can virtually build a show for clients to use, and trouble shoot with the offline editors should they need any assistance. I have a main dashboard, where I can see my sample rate. I can see how everything is locked, but I can also check my DSP page, my FIR filters, my Smaart screen, timecode and EARS. I can pin all that information to one location, so it all appears on one page, then I don’t have to go diving for it. The graphic enhancements that globcon have made to help engineers understand what is happening in their hardware is second to none, and we at NEAT absolutely love it!”

NEAT Audio has established itself as a leader in the industry through its exceptional customer service and commitment to providing the suitable tools for any applications. With DirectOut at the heart of their playback redundancy engines, the company is looking forward to a future of growth, as Bechill concludes.

“We are renowned for our level of service and as our company grows, we are looking at ways to scale that service. In fact, 2025 has seen our products enter SweetWater USA as commercially available solutions,” he says. “DirectOut have built something perfect which, impressively, ties into our offering. I am excited to grow with them and to see what the future will bring. I think it’s going to be huge!”

DirectOut, a leading provider of audio technology, is pleased to announce the successful deployment of its modular audio platform, PRODIGY.MP, in extreme acoustic testing conducted by Acoustic Research Systems (ARS).

ARS, is an industry leader of Direct Field Acoustic Testing, and relies on multiple PRODIGY.MP to ensure accurate and repeatable launch simulations. Founded by Eric Friedlander and Jeremiah Leiter, ARS has established itself as a disruptive innovator in the field of acoustic testing.

The company utilizes PRODIGY.MP as a critical link between the acoustic test control system and the ARS NeutronTM acoustic fields. Designed to provide next-generation acoustic power output for aerospace, scientific and industrial applications, the ARS NeutronTM System is part of the turn-key, complete solution for mobile or fixed High Power Direct Field Acoustic Testing needs.

Orbiting satellites provide essential services for us on Earth: communication and internet access, navigation and weather forecasting, even scientific and military objectives. Launching these objects through our atmosphere is accompanied by tremendous noise, vibration and pressure loads, so testing these, and other space-bound objects is crucial for verifying their durability.

A Falcon 9 rocket launch creates approximately 107dBa and the historic Saturn 5 rockets of the Apollo era were over 200dBa. These are amongst the loudest sounds possible on Earth. Sound at this volume stops being a wave moving through air and becomes a massive pressure zone, pushing air with huge force causing gigantic destructive vibrations. To ensure the survivability of delicate electronics and solar panels required by modern space-technology, launches today require robust testing methods.

The NeutronTM acoustic field generating platform is the first turn-key ultra-high output field acoustic testing and launch simulation system, with each unit weighing in at over 770kg, these are substantial acoustic devices. Used in groups of three, these stacks are capable of producing over 150dB, exactly the level needed to recreate the force of dangerously loud rocket engines.

The PRODIGY.MP platform offers flexible I/O, dual network audio, DSP functions, sample rate conversion, and powerful software. In conjunction with the NeutronTM system, PRODIGY.MP ensures that the correct input signals are precisely routed to the appropriate output points, guaranteeing successful test execution. The built-in redundancy of PRODIGY.MP, including dual power supplies and Dante redundancy, delivers exceptional operational reliability.

The test environment is created by producing an acoustic field that precisely meets the specific frequency response profile required by the customer. Achieved with as few as three NeutronTM drivers, some systems may require many more, stacked horizontally, vertically, or both. PRODIGY.MP, as central hub of the system drive, is key to these set-ups. Its ability to handle complex routing and signal processing allows the field to be entirely randomized, a feature that is in high demand from industry customers as they seek to repeat the specific conditions that their launch vehicles create, and their payloads need to withstand.

ARS is the first company to introduce a standardized, fully digital, fully redundant drive system for Direct Field Acoustic Testing. This innovation provides optimal and consistent testing environments, that accurately recreate the acoustic stresses of a rocket launch. The automated test control supported by PRODIGY.MP, along with real-time monitoring via the globcon software, provides an intuitive interface that simplifies the entire testing process.

With PRODIGY.MP at the core of the acoustic test system, ARS sets new industry standards. DirectOut's flexible, reliable, and precise audio platform eliminates concerns about signal processing, ensuring that customer goals are consistently met. PRODIGY.MP provides the necessary adaptability and confidence to meet the demanding requirements of the aerospace industry.

“PRODIGY.MP stood out to us for its unmatched blend of capability, reliability, and adaptability,” says Leiter. “Few platforms can meet the demands of high-power acoustic testing like it does. For smaller-scale campaigns, the sheer power and footprint were occasionally more than we needed — but that’s where MAVEN steps in. Together, these tools give ARS the versatility to deliver precision testing across missions of all sizes.”

DirectOut, manufacturer of high-end audio solutions for any audio application, has been chosen by system designer and engineer, Ville Kauhanen to provide fail-safe stability for all his complex stadium-touring audio system designs.

Stadium touring is the pinnacle of live music touring and Kauhanen is at the very top of his game. He has worked non-stop in the industry for nearly 30 years and with some of the highest profile artists on the planet. His recent work includes Taylor Swift’s record-breaking Eras tour, which concluded in December 2024. The tour visited 54 cities across five continents playing 149 shows and was the highest grossing tour of all time.

Kauhanen was the system engineer for the tour and provided the system infrastructure for each location. His method of working today is very different to when he first started, but, as he explains, his huge industry overview enables him to plan for the future, as well as succeed in the present.

“I’m old enough to have seen the transition from analog to digital. When I started, we had very different ideas of what the future of audio networking would look like,” he says. “We assumed there would just be one huge network with everything in it, but we now know that this may never happen. That’s why I need a strong audio backbone, and that can only be provided by DirectOut. I rely upon the PRODIGY range, usually together with EXBOX, for every project I’m involved in.”

DirectOut offers reliable conversion and matrixing between a wide range of audio network protocols so, regardless of the manufacturer’s network strategy, signal paths between pieces of equipment stay intact. Across the industry, different protocols such as MADI, Ravenna, Dante and AVB are in use and successfully matrixing these elements requires powerful conversion that can operate seamlessly.

“I don’t care what the speaker or console brand is, but the audio transportation infrastructure has to be DirectOut-based," he says. “They support so many formats, and their products are flexible and reliable. Due to their popularity and ability to support most audio formats used in productions, I often find that the different vendors for each department can provide PRODIGYs as part of their package and then I can patch things together as one infrastructure backbone.”

The power of solutions like PRODIGY.MP comes from the FPGA-based low-latency processing. Kauhanen relies on this to maintain a stable signal path across different clocking rates and network protocols, ensuring failsafe operation at every point, even in 90,000-capacity venues.

“Most companies focus on a few network strategies, maybe point to point, or channel count, but I think the vision of DirectOut is much wider and has quality,” he says. “I use it mainly for the powerful sample rate conversions, but the ability to matrix between different formats is also essential.”

Planning infrastructure on a stadium scale is a massive challenge. Kauhanen needs to get sound from the performer to the audience, but there are many other considerations. Timecode must be shared across departments - there are feeds for social media, broadcast and accessibility, such as correctly timed headphone feeds for sign language interpreters. This data will all travel on a network designed by Kauhanen, so it is essential that the infrastructure parameters are known in advance. For the fine details of the network, he uses an associate who manages details like network switches. Such is the requirement for a complex understanding of IT and audio technology, the use of his associate is written into his contract.

“One of the most important parts of my job is planning. I need to get that done early, so the information can be sent to the venues. Because of the impact on seating layout, our loudspeaker, amplifier, console and infrastructure layout all needs to be confirmed before the venues can sell tickets. This is done very far in advance,” he explains.

“Once the infrastructure information is in place, we can add anything else we need to; extra audio-feeds or points of connectivity, right up to when the first show starts. We use time-critical NDI video across our network, too, so there are time sensitive issues that need to be understood.”

DirectOut is Kauhanen’s solution today, but he knows it is flexible enough to be ready for the future. Another part of his regular working is delivering seminars where he shares his knowledge with the next generation of system designers. In several public seminars Kauhanen explains how PRODIGYs can be connected to create a single backbone that supports any audio network.

“I have more experience than most, so I try to share. I also try to ensure that I’m not the smartest person in the room, so I can keep learning best practice. Nothing is ever a secret!” Kauhanen concludes. “Looking to the future, DirectOut solutions already support such a wide range of audio formats, that I will just keep using them until the end of the world!”
