{"id":9422,"date":"2022-07-11T09:43:23","date_gmt":"2022-07-11T07:43:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.directout.eu\/?p=9422"},"modified":"2022-11-07T09:53:50","modified_gmt":"2022-11-07T08:53:50","slug":"prodigy-mp-at-esc2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.directout.eu\/de\/prodigy-mp-at-esc2022\/","title":{"rendered":"PRODIGY.MP at ESC2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><section class=\"ffb-id-5qf5oeb0 fg-section fg-text-dark\"><div class=\"fg-container container fg-container-large fg-container-lvl--1\"><div class=\"fg-row row\" ><div class=\"ffb-id-5qf5oeb1 fg-col col-xs-12 col-md-12 fg-text-dark\"><div class=\"ffb-id-5qf5okrj fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left    fg-text-dark\"><\/p>\n<p>Broadcast to more than 50 countries worldwide and attracting upwards of 200 million viewers, the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 (ESC2022) employed the most extensive DirectOut audio infrastructure so far used at the event, setting new standards in the reliability of its sound.<\/p>\n<p>A key goal of the system design was to ensure that, in the event of the failure of any single element, the audio signal flow would not be interrupted for more than 3ms. To achieve this, it was necessary to provide one or more backups for each device, and for the first redundancy level to be independent of operator response time. Another requirement was that all tasks and signals had to be synchronized bi-directionally to within a single audio sample, while audio glitches were to be completely avoided.<\/p>\n<p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section><style><\/style><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><\/script><section class=\"ffb-id-5qf62dnt fg-section fg-text-dark\"><div class=\"fg-container container fg-container-large fg-container-lvl--1\"><div class=\"fg-row row\" ><div class=\"ffb-id-5qf62dnu fg-col col-xs-12 col-md-7 fg-text-dark\"><div class=\"ffb-id-5qf63fhm fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left    fg-text-dark\"><\/p>\n<p>Unusually, the technical infrastructure used a single synchronization source to ensure maximum quality in the exchange of 48kHz digital audio, as well as facilitating the use of bi-directional SRC in the event of problems. The sync was derived from the two NEP OB trucks serving the event&rsquo;s broadcast.<\/p>\n<p>To achieve the exceptional level of system security the project required, the planners relied extensively on audio converters, processors and distribution systems from German professional audio hardware manufacturer DirectOut &ndash; in particular, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.directout.eu\/de\/produkt\/prodigy-mp\/\">PRODIGY.MP<\/a> processor, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.directout.eu\/de\/produkt\/andiamo\/\">ANDIAMO<\/a> AD\/DA converter and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.directout.eu\/de\/produkt\/m1k2\/\">M.1K2 &nbsp;<\/a>scalable MADI router.<\/p>\n<p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"ffb-id-5qf62dnv fg-col col-xs-12 col-md-5 fg-text-dark\"><a class=\"ffb-id-5qf64jqi  responsive-image-wrapper freshframework-lightbox-image fg-text-dark\" href=\"https:\/\/www.directout.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/do-rf-003-esc-2022-02_consoles.jpeg\" title=\"Consoles at ESC2022\"><img decoding=\"async\"  class=\"fg-image  img-responsive full-width\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.directout.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/do-rf-003-esc-2022-02_consoles.jpeg\"  alt=\"do-rf-003-esc-2022-02_consoles\"  title=\"Consoles at ESC2022\"   ><\/a><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section><style>@media (min-width:1200px) { .ffb-id-5qf62dnv{ padding-top: 25px;}}@media (min-width:1200px) { .ffb-id-5qf63fhm{ padding-top: 18px;}}<\/style><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><\/script><section class=\"ffb-id-5qf6b2kh fg-section fg-text-dark\"><div class=\"fg-container container fg-container-large fg-container-lvl--1\"><div class=\"fg-row row\" ><div class=\"ffb-id-5qf6b2ki fg-col col-xs-12 col-md-12 fg-text-dark\"><div class=\"ffb-id-5qf6bb5p fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left    fg-text-dark\"><\/p>\n<p>The ESC2022 used a total of 14 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.directout.eu\/de\/produkt\/prodigy-mp\/\">PRODIGY.MP<\/a> units for its central audio interfacing and distribution, providing &lsquo;glue&rsquo; between the different audio formats and manufacturers&rsquo; systems in play, seamlessly integrating a huge and diverse audio system for FOH, Monitors, Playback, Patch Room and Broadcast. In case of signal failure or loop detection, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.directout.eu\/de\/support\/glossary\/#glossary-ears\">EARS&trade;<\/a> switches the entire port or multi-channel stream to the backup after checking its functionality.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the main and backup Pro Tools sources, the third laptop provided disaster recovery, which was available as a third parallel source in case of a simultaneous failure of both main and backup. To further increase system stability, an Input Manager and Automator were also added to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.directout.eu\/de\/produkt\/prodigy-mp\/\">PRODIGY.MP<\/a> units. Actions, in turn, can be internal device status changes or external events, such as MIDI commands, OSC, TCP\/IP, UDP and GPO.
