Control Protocols

A couple of different techniques to embed control data have evolved over the years, some of which are directly supported in the M.1k2. This non-exhaustive list covers some of the protocols you might encounter in the real world and help you debug a setup.

Channel User Bits

ChannelUsageSupportedManufacturer
1..9Serial 1XD.O.TEC, Studer
10..18Serial 2Studer
56MIDIXD.O.TEC, RME

Note: "Supported" indicates that the M.1k2 sports (de-)embedders for this kind of control data that can be routed independently of the audio routing.

Since AES channel bits are routed transparently with the audio data, you can route all of the three control data streams listed above by routing the audio channels they appear in.
